2022 LST Motorsports Park Rules

AGE RESTRICTIONS: Driver’s age will be determined by their age at the start of the racing season. No exception to these age limits will be allowed. This includes but is not limited to weight, ability or previous experience.

 

Jr. Box Stock: 5-10

Box Stock:: 5-10

Jr. Sportsman: 8-12

Sportsman: 11-14

Sprint Karts: 15+

Adult Champ: 15+

 

Safety:

 

Belts: 5 point racing harness with belts of at least 2” in width are required. Belts must be up to date for all races throughout the season. Belts must be securely fastened to the chassis. Attachment to the cage is allowed only if the cage is welded to the chassis.

 

Arm Restraints: Arm restraints are required. Must attach to either the steering column or the 5 point racing harness in a safe manner. Arms and hands may not extend beyond the cage.

 

Helmets: DOT Approved or Snell Approved as of 2015 (SA2015) or better required. No open face helmets allowed.

 

Neck Brace: A neck brace or similar device is required.

 

Elbow Pad: Not required but highly recommended.

 

Suit: Karting jacket and gloves required. SFI-Rated is not required. Abrasion resistant jackets are recommended but not required.

 

Brakes: All karts must have brakes working in such a manner to at minimum, brake both rear wheels equally and adequately. All bolts and nuts must be cotter-keyed in such a way to prevent the nut from moving. Brake pedal must be secured to the kart with safety wire or cotter keys. A rotor guard is required.

 

Chain/Sprocket Guard: All karts must have a chain and sprocket guard.

 

Axles & Hubs: Must be either pinned or fastened by wire. Axle safety clips are required.

 

Floor Pan: Floor pan is required from pedals to seat.

 

Weight: Non-structural weights added to meet minimum kart/driver weight requirements must be bolted securely to the kart using bolts of at least 5/16” in diameter. Weights in excess of 7 lbs. must use two or more 5/16” bolts. All bolts must be cotter-keyed or double nutted.

 

NOTE: All bolt-on weights must be white in color for visibility. Mounting of weights on nerf bars & rear bumper is prohibited. Weights may be mounted on the front bumper. No added weight allowed on the driver.


 

Engine: All divisions will follow the Briggs & Stratton 206 United States Rule Set.

Three exceptions to this rule set are permitted.

  1. Rule 9 exception: JC Specialty Air Filter #120110 will be allowed.

  2. Rule 32 exception: Any karting clutch is allowed.

  3. Rule 34 exception: Exhaust Pipe 5530

 

Chassis: All kart chassis and roll cages must be built with a minimum 1” diameter .078” thickness steel tubing or material of equal strength.

 

Seat: Left most part of the seat must be at least 4” from the left side nerf bar.

 

Bumpers: Front bumper, rear bumper and nerf bars must be constructed of minimum 3/4” diameter steel tubing, minimum tubing wall thickness of 0.065”, attached with a 1/4” minimum bolt.

 

Bodies: Kart must have an open cockpit area as viewed from above, except for steering column fairing and nose cone.

 

Tires: Only Vega Yellow, White, Green or Blue compounds are allowed.

 

Fuel: All karts must have the fuel tank centered beneath the steering column. All karts must have an overflow catch can. Maximum 94 octane gasoline per the LO206 rules.


 

Unless the rules specifically state that something is allowed, assume that is not.

Division Specific Rule Set

 

Jr. Box Stock: This division is intended to be an entry level division for a driver's first year racing. Points will not be scored. This class is for learning the sport, rules, flags and racing line. Not about winning or championships.

 

Weight: 315lbs to be measured after the race with the driver in the kart.

 

Seat Height: 10” minimum as measured from the ground to the top of the back of the seat.

 

Engine: LO206 Engine must be used. Extra Long Black slide required. 4100 Coil required.


 

Box Stock: 

 

Weight: 315lbs to be measured after the race with the driver in the kart.

 

Seat Height: 10” minimum as measured from the ground to the top of the back of the seat.

 

Engine: LO206 Engine must be used. Purple slide required.


 

Jr.Sportsman:

 

Weight: 335lbs to be measured after the race with the driver in the kart.

 

Seat Height: 10” minimum as measured from the ground to the top of the back of the seat.

 

Engine: LO206 Engine must be used. Red slide required.


 

Sportsman:

 

Weight: 375lbs to be measured after the race with the driver in the kart.

 

Seat Height: 12” minimum as measured from the ground to the top of the back of the seat.

 

Engine: LO206 Engine must be used. Yellow slide required.


 

Sprint Karts:

 

Weight: 375lbs to be measured after the race with the driver in the kart.

 

Seat Height: 14” minimum as measured from the ground to the top of the back of the seat.

 

Engine: LO206 Engine allowed. Red Slide Required (2022 only, 2023+ will be unrestricted)

Stock 212 Predator per Central Maine Sprint Kart Racing Series Rules (2022 only, 2023+ Only LO206 engines) 


 

Adult Champ:

 

Weight: 425lbs to be measured after the race with the driver in the kart.

 

Chassis: Must be a Champ Kart chassis.

 

Seat Height: 14” minimum as measured from the ground to the top of the back of the seat.


Engine: LO206 Engine must be used. Stock Unrestricted Slide required.

2022 Mini Cup Series Rules

 

CAR BODIES: All bodies must be mounted level and securely attached to the chassis at a minimum of four (4) places. All cars, body and frame must be in good condition and appearance and contain no sharp edges. Bodies will ONLY be made of fiberglass (not tin bodies.)

 

Cars must have safe and suitable front and rear bumpers. Bumpers should be mini cup type with smooth and rounded edges. Rear bumper must incorporate a push bar (except where the rear clip is the rear bumper and must come in contact with the body to be used as a push bumper.) The push bar shall be designed to prevent a car from being lifted off its rear wheels if hit by another car from the rear and additionally would allow a disabled car to be pushed back to the puts by a track service vehicle. The push bar shall be constructed of 1" diameter pipe and shall not extend more than 1" beyond the rear of the body and be no lower than 4" above the track surface.

 

Cars must have front and rear windshields and side windows made from clear Lexan, not plexiglass. Tinting of windshield is allowed. The painting of a 1"-1.5" border around windshield, side and rear windows is permitted. The painting of a 3"-4" sun shield strip at top of windshield is allowed. Front and back windshields must be fastened to prevent the windshields from being blown loose during a race. Window brackets are permitted. No left side windows.

 

Cars must have an easy access hatch made on top of the car. Hatches attached to the front (opening from back to front.) Hatches must be made from fiberglass or plastic. Hatch must be fastened with rubber locking strap, pins or Velcro, as long as the hatch does not blow open while on the track. Track officials have the authority to black flag a car racing with the hatch not secured. Tethering of the roof hatch to prevent opening in the event of a roll-over is recommended.

 

Cars must have numbers on both sides and on top of the car, 12" minimum on doors and 16" minimum on roof facing the grandstands. If the car is numbered on the windshield or right front bumper, numbers must be a minimum of 3".

 

Deck lid rear spoiler is optional.

 

CHASSIS: Full perimeter type frame and four-point roll cage is required. Straight-rail type chassis allowed. Primary frames must be a minimum of 1" round or square mild steel tubing, maximum .065" wall thickness. Cars built in 1994 or earlier may use 7/8" tubing, but will be required to pass a general safety inspection. All welds must be round. A full metal floor pan and firewall is required. A solid firewall is required to separate the driver from the engine compartment. Firewall must be metal only. Seat must be connected to the frame in an approved manner. All parts must be fastened so as not to come loose. All cars will be required to have crash bars up front in a manner that they protect the driver's legs and feet. Shields are recommended but not required. Rear down tubes that connect from the roll bar to the rear chassis frame are required. With a bar that connects the two down tubes together so that the tubes do not collapse when hit from the side.

SAFETY: All cars to be equipped with a speedway approved roll cage. All cars must be worn during Practice, Qualifying and Feature races. DOT Snell approved helmet mandatory. If wearing an open face helmet you must wear goggles. Head and neck restraints recommended. Support collar is also recommended (must be a wrap around.)

 

A flame retardant fire suit jacket (1-layer minimum) is required, full fire suit (jacket and pants) not required but recommended. No shorts, must have long pants while driving. The suit must be in good condition without rips, tears, etc. Racing gloves in good condition are required. A fire extinguisher is also required and should be mounted within reach of the driver strapped in. No open toed shoes or sandals.

 

Safety belts must be competition SFI five-point safety harnesses. Harness must be securely fastened to the frame or the primary roll cage member. Belts must be no older than 7 yrs. (based on the date on belts, not the date they were installed in the car.) Regardless of age, belts must be free of any defects or damage and are subject to inspection and approval of or the race park Safety Officials.

 

All cars must be fitted with an approved aluminum mini cup type racing seat mounted securely to the chassis. Fiberglass or plastic seats are not allowed. Both right and left head rests are highly recommended.

 

Windows Nets: Left Side window net not required but highly recommended.

 

Mirrors: Car must have a left side & right side mirror mounted on the roll bars.

 

Battery must be mounted inside a metal box in the driver's compartment or behind a firewall mounted on the left side of the chassis in the engine compartment area.

 

Full cell will either be securely mounted inside the driver's compartment or securely mounted behind the firewall in the engine compartment. Fuel tank will be foam filled.

 

Fitting must be in place to prevent spillage and a rollover check valve if possible. Steering wheel must be a "quick release" type.

 

Rear axle must have snap rings on both ends. All axles will have keys in rear hubs. No free-wheeling rear hubs. Hydraulic brake connections must be tight and free of visible leaks. Brake lines should be safely routed to prevent possibly being worn through or pulled loose.

 

Radios are allowed.

 

Steering: All steering and suspension parts shall be secured by cotter pin, double nut, lock nut or snap ring. Steering wheel must be a quick release type and must lock into place when attached. Kart type or rack & pinion steering allowed. Steering column padding is optional.

Rear End Axle: Minimum OD is 11/4". No carbon fiber titanium axles allowed.

 

Brakes: Rear hydraulic brakes are required. Must be caliper/rotor type. No strap type brakes. Rigids will have a rear brake only. Suspended may have front brakes with one brake in the rear.

 

Wheelbase, Width and Length:

a. Wheelbase: Minimum wheelbase of 58", maximum wheelbase 64" as measured between center of rear axle to the center of the front spindle when the front wheel is straight.

b. Width and Length: Minimum 45", maximum of 48" measured from outside to outside of wheels. Overall length minimum of 96", maximum of 118" measured from the longest point from front to rear.

 

Engine:

a. Motors will be a Predator 420cc motor #60340 or #60349 or #69736 CA Emission and all original packing must remain unopened. Crank may be cut 1 inch to allow for clearance. Motor will be sealed on the side cover, head and 2 seals on the flywheel cover.

 

Before use ALL motors will be sealed by designated officials. Any tampering with seals will be a rules infraction and constitute a one race suspension for car and driver and no points for the day. If any interchangeable parts (i.e. carburetor, etc.) are found to be out of stock, parts will be confiscated until the end of the season and all points for that day's events will be lost.

 

CARBURETOR and SPACER:

a. Must use stock or stock appearing Honda carburetor, shut off at fuel cell must be in place. No Tilson or Mikuni carburetors.

b. Remote carburetor adjuster is allowed.

c. All carburetors and spacers will meet specs.

d. Fuel Filters: Inline fuel filters are allowed.

e. Stock unaltered insulator blocks must be run with stock gaskets that may drill ONLY for vacuum line installation.

f. Fuel Pump: Only vacuum type fuel pumps are allowed. 1/4" tubing can be added for vacuum access. Cars to be equipped with only one (1) fuel pump. Electric fuel pumps are not allowed.

 

AIRCLEANER: All engines are required to run an air cleaner and filter adaptor.

 

EXHAUST:

a. Exhaust pipe must be solid and must exit only behind the rear tire. Exhaust pipe wrap only is legal. No coatings. RLV 4106 silencer muffler 1-5/6" diameter pip inlet required. Baffles must remain in place and show no signs of tampering. No cutting or alteration of muffler allowed.

CLUTCH and CHAINS: You may use either a dry centrifugal clutch or disk clutch. No other types of drive devices allowed. Only #35 Chain is allowed. No auto or manual chain oiling systems. No ratchet or free float hubs. All sprocket keys in place. NO SKIP tooth gears allowed.

 

TIMING and ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:

a. No alterations to the starter coil, mounting bolts and holes or other electrical parts are allowed.

b. Any make or brand spark plug as long as it's compatible with the engine.

c. The electric self-starter must be in working order. All cars must be capable of starting under their own power.

 

OIL and FUEL SYSTEM:

a. Oil brands are optional. No flammables or explosives. Oil catch can is required on all cars and must be in working order.

b. Fuel containers must be metal or plastic. Fuel line must have a shut off valve properly installed between the fuel cell and fuel pump.

c. Fuel Rule: Fuel will be at track and it will be 93 octane. Must come up to line up with an empty fuel tank.

 

WHEELS and TIRES:

a. Wheels: Aluminum 6" wheels. Wheels must be matching in size and off set all the way around the car.

b. The tires that are allowed to be used are the American Racer mini cup tires (7 inch tires.) Note: All qualifying and race tires shall be in good condition with no visible flaws.

 

WEIGHT: All rigid mini cup cars will weigh a minimum of 700 lbs with the driver. All suspended mini cup cars will weigh a minimum 750 lbs with the driver. All lead weight must be attached securely to the chassis, painted white and have the car number on it.

 

AMENDMENTS: These rules are subject to change at any time during the season. Remember if it doesn't state that you can't do something within the rules doesn't mean you can. Check the race official. Age requirement for mini cups is a minimum of 10 years old.

 

There will be a 3 strike rule. If you are the cause of 3 cautions you will be removed from race activities for the day.
